Investigation of the effectiveness of dehydrated corneal collagen barriers on corneal defects: An experimental rabbit model

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect collagen shield on epithelial wound healing in rabbit eyes. Adult New Zealand Albino rabbits were used study. All surgical procedures carried out under general anesthesia. Superficial keratectomies 6 mm diameter created 40 eyes 20 and they separated into 3 groups as control (CN), medical treatment (CA) barrier (CB) groups. In CN group, received 0.9% NaCl drops. CA 7 ciprofloxacin acetylcysteine. CB a placed corneal defect for 72 hours rabbits. Central thickness measured using an ultrasound pachymeter. Corneal determined before at 96 after surgery. There significant increase (CA group: P<0.01, P<0.001) hours. size evaluated immediately surgery, then significantly greater response group (P<0.001) compared other earlier closure may be due protection lubrication cells margins fresh wound. These findings suggest that useful when treating surface conditions which de-epithelialization is component.
